ICMAI had for the first time conducted a Centre Based online exam in December 2021, and the experience was way worse than the students could imagine.
For all appearing students, the designated exam centers were too far away, more than 27 km away. Bus for conveyance was arranged by PCA (Pimpri Chinchwad Akurdi Chapter) for students. But, I think that would be the only chapter that made such arrangements.
The sectional weightage was different from that mentioned in the module.
For Example => Indirect Taxation Module mentions 80 Marks for Section A (GST) & 20 Marks for Section B (Custom Duty). This Rule has been bypassed in the Actual Online Exam.
Students were told they would be given 15 mins time to read the question paper, which was not provided.
The keyboards were not working properly: ‘0’ on numlock was not working, the cursor would go someplace else after you press enter or spacebar. And the system was totally outdated. The operating system was way worse than windows XP.
The admit cards were made available to students 2 days before the exam. Before getting Admit Card, we were guessing that exam may be postponed and we will be intimated a new date.
In most of the examination centers, drinking water was not available and the students were not allowed to bring their own water bottles.
All the answers need to be checked manually or a better checking system is needed, especially for the Theory from section C. We asked for the Paper from Institute and found that all answers are assigned ZERO marks in spite of writing appropriate answers.
The mock test papers that were available on the site, and the final exam papers didn’t match. In fact, by looking at Mock Test Papers, we prepared in different way.
Section B in the mock test was MCQ type while in the final exam it was 'fill in the blanks'. The synonyms for the exact Keyword fit in those 'fill in the Blanks', is not allowed.
Questions from Section B and Section D needs to be modified. Questions from section B were very lengthy and the sub-questions only consisted of 1 mark or 2 marks, Section D was a case study, which was never seen before in any CMA exam.
The most confusing part was, how the sums were going to be evaluated because we couldn’t show the steps on the computer and if the rough work paper provided to us, was going to be checked or not... wasn’t confirmed.
The ICMAI needs to work on all these points. Else, ICMAI is requested to think seriously to scrap this Online Exams for Professional Students. In other equivalent professions like CA & CS, such online Exams are avoided, with the intention.
In a way, ICMAI is eradicating the prestige built up over the years about conducting the Exam.
Please stop Online Center Based Exam and start Offline Exams again. Please understand that Corona is no more now and we all are vaccinated.
